What is a Site-List?

A site list is a list of web sites on a particular topic that are interesting, informative and may be used by other educators to as a resource to assist in teaching particular lessons. Your site list can compile sites that you find interesting or innovative when trying to teach students about a particular subject, sites that you find useful when integrating standards into your lessons, or simply a list of your favorite educational sites.

What is a Tag

A tag is a key word or term associated with or assigned to your site list that describes it and enables a key word-based search to find your list.

What is a Tag cloud?

A tag cloud is a visual depiction of content tags used on a web site. The SiteTradr tag cloud on the right side of the screen shows the most used tags used to describe the different site lists. The bigger the font, the more the tag has been used.

What is an RSS Feed?

An RSS feed is a data format used for serving users frequently updated content. Content distributors syndicate a web feed, thereby allowing users to subscribe to it. Feeds are used in SiteTradr to get the latest information about added or most popular site lists.

How can I subscribe to an RSS-Feed?

To subscribe to an RSS feed, simply click on the orange feed symbol, located in the right side of your Internet search bar. It looks like this:

What is an edit key?

The edit key is a combination of numbers and letters randomly created by SiteTradr when uploading a site list. You will receive your edit key via e-mail when you upload a site list, which is why it is important to enter a valid e-mail address. The edit key allows you to edit your site lists.

What is Surf-Lock2?

Surf-Lock works with Vision classroom management software from GenevaLogic to give teachers one-click control of Internet access for their classrooms. It lets teachers restrict or allow Internet access for one student, groups of students or the whole class. Surf-Lock2 enables teachers to lock web surfing entirely or limit student web browsing to a list of sites that are appropriate for a particular lesson. Surf-Lock2 users can download site lists from Site-Tradr and put them directly into the Surf-Lock2 site manager, where they can be used to guide student web surfing. Can I use SiteTradr without having Surf-Lock 2?

Absolutely. To use SiteTradr all you need is an Internet browser. SiteTradr is compatible with all the major browsers and will let you exchange lists of your favorite web sites without the need for any additional software.
